How it works

One measurement, all the way to the money.

This is the job from the published film, in our demo company: a porch rail quote that wasn’t signed yet. Follow the corner rail from the crew’s photo to the customer’s PDF.

  1. The porch deck measured on site: an amber line across the deck reading 12′ 7″.ON SITE
    01

    Same camera. New mode.

Shoot in MEASURE, beside Photo and Video. The camera shows a live distance and coaches the shot. Measure right then, or leave it for later.

12′ 7″Good12.56 ft, the porch width that prices the end rail
  2. The crew’s photo of the porch corner, measured the next day: an amber line from post to post labeled Corner rail: 4′ 9″.LATER
    02

    Measure it any day.

Next day, they want the corner done too, before they sign. Nobody measured it. The office measures it from the crew’s photo, post to post, and names it for the customer.

    4′ 9″Fair± 2″, so it says so
  3. The quote’s line editor after measuring: Quantity 4.7 with a ruler icon, Unit lf, the note Measured 4′ 9″ from a photo ± 2″, Unit Price $48, Total $225.60.PRICEDYour side: the line editor

    The number becomes the quantity.

Pick the line on the open quote. The quantity fills in, the total recalculates, and the line is marked Measured, so nobody retypes a number.

Where it pays

The jobs where a measuring photo earns its keep.

Each one starts the same way: somebody on the crew takes the photo in Measure. What happens next is where the money is.

THE ADD-ON, BEFORE THEY SIGN

They want the corner done too.

They want the corner done too, before they sign. Nobody measured it. Measure it from the crew’s photo, post to post. The quantity fills in and the total updates. No trip back for it.

Works on draft, sent and viewed quotes, before the customer signs. On a sent quote, the customer will see the new quantity. A signed quote’s lines are locked, and change-order quantities are typed.

LATER CAN MEAN AFTER THE DRYWALL

Before the wall closes.

Shoot the open walls in Measure. Months later, when someone asks how high the blocking is or how far the drain sits from the corner, measure it from the photo, after the drywall is up.

“Once the walls close, that work is invisible, and these photos are your only proof of what is behind them.”Greg Woleck, Remodelers Advantage, July 6, 2026

Only photos shot in Measure while the wall is open. Aim at broad, solid faces; on thin pipes and wires it may say depth is uncertain.

THE OFFICE PRICES IT

Your crew shoots. The office prices it.

Measure the crew’s photo later in the web app, or on an iPhone or iPad. Pick the line, and the total recalculates. Nobody on the crew has to measure anything.

“Cost estimators work mostly in office settings, and some estimators visit construction sites and factory assembly lines during the course of their work.”U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook, read October 12, 2026

Saving a measurement later takes an owner, admin or manager. The web app needs a connection to save.

BEFORE THEY SIGN

They see what they’re paying for.

Before they sign, they see what they’re paying for. The measured photo, with the dimension drawn on it, sits under the name of the line it priced in the quote PDF. It also appears on the signing page, and in the customer portal on Starter and up.

Your customer sees the photo once the quote is sent. They never see the ± or the grade.

THE FIRST VISIT

Measure at the first knock.

Shoot it in Measure from the lead camera and measure it right in the camera, so the number is ready for the quote before you leave the driveway.

Measure in the camera tray before you save the lead. Putting it on a quote needs a connection.

WINDOWS AND DOORS

The photo prices it. The tape orders it.

Quote replacement windows and doors from the photo. Before you order, measure the opening the way the manufacturer says to.

A measuring photo documents the size on the quote. Ordering stays with the tape.

Elevator work: cab interiors and entrances. The hoistway and pit stay with the tape or the laser.

What LiDAR adds

Depth, saved with the photo.

The LiDAR Scanner on recent iPhone Pro and iPad Pro models senses depth (see which models). Measure mode saves that depth with the photo, so the photo carries its own size. Later, the office measures it without a reference length and without a trip back.

  • The 12 MP photo, kept clean
  • A depth map from the LiDAR Scanner
  • The camera’s calibration and which way is down

Only photos taken in Measure carry depth. Ordinary photos can’t be measured.

Tools

Length, height, area.

Length

Point to point, or a run of segments added up into one length.

Height

Straight up and down, using the direction of gravity saved with the photo.

Area

A shape on one flat surface, in square feet, ready for an sf line.

Level and plumb guides, an angle readout and snapping help place each point. Drag a point with the mouse, zoom with the wheel, and send lengths to lf lines and areas to sf lines.

For the price

Measure is included on every plan, from Solo at $39/mo.

Every plan includes Measure. Plans from $39 to $600 a month. Save 20–25% billed annually.

  • No per-measurement fee. Measuring a photo and putting it on a quote line spends no AI credits. There’s no per-project or per-measurement fee.
  • It isn’t another app. Measure is part of the same app that writes the quote, runs the project and keeps the photos.
  • One device can cover the team. One iPhone Pro or iPad Pro with LiDAR on the team takes the measuring photos, and the office measures them later in the web app, or on an iPhone or iPad.

CompanyCam’s plans help article lists LiDAR measurements on its Scale plan only (checked October 12, 2026). See the dated price snapshot.

What does one trip back to measure cost you?

Example: use your own numbers.

One trip back costs about$92

That’s about 1.9 months of Starter for 3 people, at $49/mo billed monthly.

Our arithmetic from the inputs above: (2 × drive + time on site) ÷ 60 × hourly cost + miles × rate per mile. Drive time: R. DiToma, “The Cost of Travel,” PHCP Pros, March 31, 2017 (“For most contractors, this average time will range between 15 and 45 minutes.”). Hourly costs: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Occupational Outlook Handbook, median pay, May 2025 (construction managers, cost estimators, carpenters). Devices and availability

One iPhone Pro or iPad Pro with LiDAR takes the photo. The office measures it.

Measuring photos are taken in the app on an iPhone Pro or iPad Pro with LiDAR. MEASURE only appears on phones and tablets that can take measuring photos.

On iPhone Pro and iPad Pro with LiDAR Measure later in the web app, or on an iPhone or iPad Included on every plan
Which devices take measuring photos?

Measure mode in the camera works on iPhone 12 Pro and later Pro models, and on iPad Pro (2022) and later: iPad Pro 11-inch (4th generation and later), iPad Pro 12.9-inch (6th generation) and iPad Pro 13-inch. It needs the LiDAR Scanner, so iPhone models without “Pro” (and iPhone Air) can’t take them. Earlier iPad Pro models with a LiDAR Scanner (2020 and 2021) don’t have Measure mode in the camera. Any iPhone or iPad can measure a photo taken on one of the supported models.

The app needs iOS 16 or later.

  • On the crew’s iPhone Pro or iPad Pro with LiDAR Shoot in MEASURE, in the same camera the crew already uses. The camera coaches the shot in plain words. Measure right away in the camera, or leave it for later.
  • At the office, in the web app Open the photo, measure with a mouse, and send the number to a quote line. Level and plumb guides, an angle readout and snapping help place each point.
  • On Android Android phones don’t take measuring photos. One iPhone Pro or iPad Pro with LiDAR on the team takes them, and the office measures them later in the web app, or on an iPhone or iPad.
  • On the customer’s side Customers don’t measure. They see the measured photo on the quote you send.

Questions

Measure, answered.

Which iPhones and iPads take measuring photos?
My iPad Pro is from 2020. Can it measure?
Measure mode in the camera starts with the 2022 iPad Pro. Your iPad can still measure photos taken on a supported iPhone or iPad.
Does it work on Android?
Android phones don’t take measuring photos. One iPhone Pro or iPad Pro with LiDAR on the team takes them, and the office measures them later in the web app, or on an iPhone or iPad.
How sure are the measurements?
Every reading is graded Good, Fair or Rough. When it’s less sure, it shows a ± range. When depth is uncertain, it says so. Use it for estimating, planning and documenting. Keep the tape for the cut.
Can I measure my old photos?
Only photos taken in Measure carry depth. Ordinary photos can’t be measured.
Does my customer see the ±?
No. Your customer sees the measured photo, with its dimension drawn on it, under the name of the line it priced in the quote PDF. The ± range and the grade stay in your app.
Who can measure later?
Your office: owners, admins and managers measure and save later in the web app, or on an iPhone or iPad. Capturing a measuring photo takes an iPhone Pro or iPad Pro with LiDAR. Customers don’t measure.
Which quotes can take a measurement?
Works on draft, sent and viewed quotes, before the customer signs. On a sent quote, the customer will see the new quantity. A signed quote’s lines are locked, and change-order quantities are typed.
Does it cost extra?
No. Measure is included on every plan, from Solo at $39/mo. Measuring a photo and putting it on a quote line spends no AI credits. There’s no per-project or per-measurement fee. Measuring photos count toward your plan’s storage, the same as other job photos.
When can I get it?
On iPhone Pro and iPad Pro with LiDAR. Photos taken in Measure can be measured later in the web app, or on an iPhone or iPad. JobSiteCore is invite-only during early access: request access, and we review each contracting business and email an invite.
