Ask and answer RFIs

Ask your customer a question in writing, with photos and a due date, and keep the answer and the decision on the job record.

Updated September 27, 2026

An RFI (request for information) is a question you ask in writing. The answer and the decision stay on the job record.

When to use one

  • Clarifying unclear plans or specifications.
  • Resolving conflicts between documents.
  • Getting approval for a substitution.
  • Recording a decision you got out loud.

Ask a question

Choose New RFI in a project's actions, in Quick Add, or in the command palette. Give it a subject and the question.

Set a category, a priority and a response due date. Attach photos when they help.

How the customer answers

A project RFI shows on the customer's portal project page, under Questions & Clarifications. The customer replies there and can attach photos.

Customers can also start a question of their own.

Keep track

The RFI list shows every thread. Filter by Open, Answered, Closed, Cancelled or Overdue, and export the list from the menu.

A project's Open Work card counts unanswered RFIs. Tap that row to open the RFI list for the project.

Unanswered RFIs can hold up a job. Set due dates and follow up on overdue ones.

Who has it

RFIs are on the Business plan and above.
